Soulshine was written by the talented Mary Robb Wilson who sought to answer her daughters late night question “Mama, what is a soul?” The book explores what it means to have a soul by peeling back our layers of self just like unstacking a nesting doll: body, thoughts, feelings… and the innermost layer, the soul. Soulshine utilizes translucent pages to involve the reader in this tactile process and we look to the vast beauty of nature to expand upon these ideas. Now as a mother to a three year old who is deep in his “Why?” Phase, I know that a book like this can act as a very useful tool for parents as their children begin to ask these challenging questions. It was a pleasure to work collaboratively on this book and I am very proud of the illustrations that were created.
